Fault Detection eLearning
Docensas
The requirements
From Docensas, a company specialized in training within the elevator sector, we were requested to develop an e-Learning course for fault detection in control panels.
Since the implementation was planned to be carried out through SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) packages hosted on the corresponding Learning Management System (LMS), a software development based on web technologies was required.
The software needed to be versatile enough to be adapted to different models of elevator controls, among the most popular from the main manufacturers.
Our approach
Always aiming to prioritize the educational dimension of these courses, we adopted from the outset a design that would provide an experience as close as possible to what a maintenance technician would encounter when detecting a fault in a real elevator.
Thus, always prioritizing the visual and interactive component, we focused the information displayed on two levels. On one hand, access to the electrical diagram of the installation, not only statically, but with animations that, as verification progressed, showed the advancement of the electrical flow through blocks, components, and conductors.
Simultaneously, the student would be shown high-resolution photographs of the various components of the elevator's safety series, which they could also magnify at will, allowing them to take electrical parameter measurements with the help of a virtual multimeter.
Planning / Pre-production
As the first step in the project, we held multiple meetings with elevator maintenance and safety experts to gain a deep understanding of the processes and critical points of fault detection in safety systems.
Thus, based on the information obtained, we created our own mental map of the project, from which we designed a content plan that thoroughly covered the controls of each considered manufacturer (Orona, Schindler, Otis, Kone, and Thyssen), ensuring that each course offered a detailed and specific approach.
Development of Interactive Content
Once we got to work, we conducted high-resolution photographic sessions of the electrical components of the elevator systems from each manufacturer, capturing all the necessary details for precise identification.
After that, we created scripts for the interactive simulations that allow students to experience the fault detection process as if they were facing the real equipment. These simulations include immediate feedback to correct errors and reinforce learning.
Simultaneously, we developed the interactive electrical diagrams that would sync with the photographs and the student's actions, providing a step-by-step guide for fault detection.
SCORM Format Integration
For the deployment of the courses, we converted all materials and simulations to the SCORM package standard, ensuring compatibility with the main Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Needless to say, we conducted extensive testing to ensure that the SCORM packages functioned correctly on different LMS platforms, maintaining interactivity and content quality.
Evaluation and Iterative Feedback
Upon completing the development of each course, we included interactive assessments to measure the students' understanding and ability in fault detection and resolution.
Throughout this process, we provided detailed reports and personalized feedback to our client, helping them identify areas for improvement.
Deployment and Support
At the end of the project, we delivered the SCORM packages ready to be implemented in the client's LMS, providing a detailed guide for installation and configuration.
Throughout this process, we provided detailed reports and personalized feedback to our client, helping them identify areas for improvement.
The outcome
At VÓRTICE, we specialize in creating interactive educational content that adapts to any format and platform, ensuring an exceptional learning experience.
Thus, the developed courses not only met the client's requirements but also set a new quality standard in technical elevator maintenance training, contributing to the development of highly skilled professionals in the sector.
